The flowers were textural, feminine, seasonal, and delicate; a perfect pairing to an exquisite brunch spread created by the Ritz Carlton Pentagon City chefs. The best botanicals of early summer were used throughout the decor, including garden roses, columbine, ranunculus, sweet peas, astilbe, peonies, and spring greens and vines.
It was a hot and sultry day in the city for this June wedding at DC's Navy Yard. A cooling color palette including muted hues of plum, lavender and mauve complimented the crisp white backdrop of historic Tingey House.
The flowers included lush ivory and blush garden roses, lilac, scabiosa, ninebark, astrantia, sweet peas, lavender and autumn olive foliage. Guests entered the tented reception through a 10 foot wide archway of abundant greenery and blooms, and found fresh sprigs of lavender herbs at their seats.
Early Mountain Vineyard has a beautifully relaxed yet elegant aesthetic, and we brought in natural greens, earthy grasses and dried flower pods along with ivory and soft terra cotta hues to work with the colors and materials in the space. I think the most important thing to consider when choosing your wedding flowers is your venue's aesthetic. Choosing a palette and materials that complement and enhance the space creates greater impact, therefore requiring fewer decorative elements. Less is more after all (unless you have an incredible oversized mantel like Early Mountain's, in which case more is more!)
